                                                       MAKING YOUR NFL LINE
LET IT BE SAID THAT EVERY FOOTBALL FAN,BETTOR WETHER HE KNOWS IT OR NOT,MAKES HIS OWN LINE. HE MAY NOT GO THROUGH THE ELABORATE MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS NESSCESSARY TO MAKE A GOOD LINE NOR GO TO THE TROUBLE OF WRITING DOWN AND REFINING HIS NUMBER....
THE FIRST STEP IN ESTABLISHING AN ACCURATE NFL POINTSPREAD IS TO ESTABLISHMENT OF A SYSTEM OF WORKABLE POWER RATING FOR ALL THE NFL TEAMS.  POWER RATING ARE A MATHEMATICAL TOOL FOR GIVING A NUMERICAL RATING TO EACH TEAM'S STRENGTH WHETHER IT BE PLAYING AT HOME OR ON THE ROAD.. THEN, BY COMPARING OPPENENT'S NUMERICAL RATING AN APPROXIMATE POINT SPREAD FOR AN UPCOMING MATCH-UP CAN BE DERIVED.

ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR PRE-SEASON POWER RATING FORMULATED....WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS ACQUIRE SOME POWER RATING FROM OTHER, RESPECTED HANDICAPPERS AND FORMULATE A CONSENSUS LINE.. THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS IS TO GET A COPY OF FOUR-SIX PUBLICATIONS WITHH POWER RATING IN THEM AND THEN AVERAGE ALL THOSE RATING TO ARRIVE AT A CONSENSUS.....AS STATED, POWER RATING ARE A TOOL THAT CAN BE USED TO AT THE VERY LEAST GIVE THE PLAYER A FEEL FOR THE RELATIVE STRENGTTHS OF EACH TEAM AND WHAT A LINE SHOULD BE WHEN TWO TEAMS PLAY EACH OTHER.......POWER RATING NEED TO BE ADJUSTED AS THE SEASON MOVES ALONG TO ACCOUNT FOR EACH TEAMS RESULTS, LEVER OF PERFORMANCE,INJURIES, AND STRENGTH OF SEHEDULE

NOTE: You want to avoid wagering on lines such as (+3.5)(+4.5)(7.5)(10.5)...Stay clear of these opening line unless you have solid info for fading them which does happen, but not often. These are call nfl key numbers.

 NFL Trends since 2003
  • The Raiders are a miserable 20-42-2 ATS (including 0-5 on Monday Night)
  • Oakland is also a painful 1-11 ATS at home vs. their division
  • The Seahawks and Buccaneers are 1-7 ATS on the road vs. the AFC
  • The Ravens are 6-1-1 ATS at home vs. the NFC
  • The Packers are a dreadful 1-6 ATS as a home dog
  • The Panthers have covered at a respectable 23-12-1 rate ATS
  • Carolina should be avoided on Monday Night where they are only 1-3
  • The Panthers and Saints are an imposing 10-2 ATS on the road against their division
  • The Broncos are 1-7 ATS at home vs. the NFC
  • The Rams are just 3-10 ATS on the road vs. the NFC
  • Beware the Dolphins as a home favorite where they are a terrible 4-17 ATS
  • Miami is a better bet vs. the NFC where they are 7-1 ATS
  • The Patriots and Steelers are 9-3 ATS as a visitor against their division opponents
  • The Jaguars are a hard biting home dog with a 9-4-1 ATS record
  • The Redskins are 10-3 ATS on the road vs. the NFC
Definitive Analysis

You don't want to bet on a NFL team that has been dominated by their opponent ATS do you? I can just hear your bookie laughing on the other end of the phone. For example, the Super Bowl champion Colts play in a division with lousy teams so you would think they beat up on them 6 times a year. But the Colts were a pathetic 2-4 ATS in 2006 division play! In fact the Texans have a 5-2 ATS record against the Colts since 2003. The Matchups page shows past head-to-head meetings of teams that are playing against each other this week. Use this valuable information to bury your sportsbook every week. Here are some more NFL 3head-to-head examples (since 2003):

 Head-to-Head NFL trends since 2003
  • The 49ers dominate the Rams with a 5-1-1 ATS record
  • Look out for the Eagles who own the Giants with a 6-2 ATS and SU record
  • The Patriots kill the Jets with 6-2 ATS and 7-1 SU records
  • Look for the Jets when they play Miami where they command a 7-1 ATS record
  • Denver is an impressive 7-1 SU against Oakland but it drops to 5-3 record with chalk
  • The Steelers own the Browns with 6-1-1 ATS and 7-1 SU records
  • There is a 6-2 over tendency when the Colts and Texans meet
  • There is a 6-2 under tendency in Falcons/Panthers and Patriots/Bills matchups

Forget individual team statistics because they are irrelevant. You already know who the better team is but what you may not know is the point spread given to you by your sportsbook doesn't represent who they think the better team is. It represents what they think will attract an equal amount of betting on each side of the point spread. In their ideal world half of their gamblers will bet one way, the other half will bet the other way, and they collect all of the vigs. In their ideal world you win sometimes, they win every time. You could have exposed the point spread last season by picking up on some of these 2006-2007 NFL trends:
Space
 Trends from the 2006-2007 season
  • The Titans went over the total in 11 out of 16 games
  • The Raiders did well in division play posting a 4-2 ATS record
  • The Dolphins, Lions, Seahawks, and Cowboys were 1-5 ATS in division play
  • The Giants had trouble playing the AFC producing a poor 0-4 ATS record
  • The Giants killed their division posting an amazing 6-1 ATS record
  • The Titans and 49ers owned their divisions in 2006 posting a 5-1 ATS record
  • The Redskins and Lions were tough home dogs, each with a 4-1 ATS record
  • The Broncos collapsed going 0-6 in division play, 1-7 at home, and 5-11 overall
  • The Bears went over the total in 13 of 19 games (including post season play)
